Ivy Newman Fredrickson is a seasoned attorney based in Butte with over 15 years of legal experience. Ivy is a graduate of Butte High School, where she served as student body president, and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene. She began her career in Washington, D.C., advocating for the protection of natural resources through legislative campaigns and congressional lobbying. Committed to deepening her expertise, Ivy earned her Juris Doctor from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. After seven years in Portland, she and her husband, Shawn, returned to Montana to raise their children closer to family and enjoy the state’s rich outdoor lifestyle.
For the past 10 years, Ivy served as Senior Staff Attorney at the Ocean Conservancy, a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit dedicated to healthy oceans. Working remotely from Butte, she led efforts to advance sound environmental policy and sustainable fishery management, and champion science-based legal solutions to complex regulatory challenges.
Ivy’s family goes back five generations in Butte; her grandfather, Maurice “Bud” Maffei, was a respected local attorney for over 50 years. She is deeply committed to her community and serves on the boards of several organizations, including the Butte Silver-Bow Board of Health, Action, Inc., and the Superfund Advisory and Redevelopment Trust Authority (SARTA). Outside of work, she and her family enjoy skiing during the winter and exploring the region’s lakes and rivers during the summer.
