Ivy Newman Fredrickson, an attorney with Silverman Law Office, has been named the 2026 Volunteer of the Year by the Butte Local Development Corporation (BLDC), recognizing her long-standing leadership and service to the Butte community.
The award was presented on April 16 at the BLDC Annual Awards Dinner at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, where community members gathered to honor individuals who contribute to the region’s strength and long-term well-being.
A fifth-generation Butte resident, Ivy has spent much of her career in service-focused roles that require careful judgment, collaboration, and long-term problem solving, which are skills that also translate directly into her legal practice. That background informs her work with Montana families and businesses in areas such as estate planning, probate, real estate, business, and other areas of transactional law.
Ivy’s community involvement spans public health, housing, and economic development.
She serves as chair of the Butte-Silver Bow Board of Health, a role she has held since 2016, including through the COVID-19 pandemic. She also serves as chair of Action, Inc., a nonprofit that provides housing assistance, homelessness prevention, job training, youth programs, and emergency support across six counties in Southwest Montana.
In addition, she serves as vice chair of Continental Gardens, a 60-unit affordable housing facility for income-eligible seniors, and as a board member of the Superfund Advisory and Redevelopment Trust Authority (SARTA), which supports redevelopment efforts in areas impacted by historic mining activity.
Earlier in her career, Ivy spent 15 years as a senior staff attorney with the Ocean Conservancy, where she worked on national environmental policy issues while maintaining strong ties to Montana.
Today, in addition to her community leadership, she practices law with Silverman Law Office, where she assists clients with a range of transactional legal matters. Her background in complex policy work and local governance gives her a practical, steady approach to helping clients navigate important legal decisions.
“Ivy’s commitment to Butte is evident in everything she does,” said Mark Shutey, Chief Operations Officer at Silverman Law Office. “Her leadership and integrity are reflected not just in her professional work, but in her ongoing service to this community.”
