Associate Attorney Job in Big Timber, Montana

Employment Type: Full-time

Base Compensation: $100,000 to $150,000 annually, plus significant bonus potential

Billable Hour Requirement: 1,400 hours annually

Office: 205 Hooper St., Big Timber, MT 59011

Minimum Qualification: Montana State Bar license, or eligibility for admission

About the Position

Silverman Law Office, PLLC is adding an associate attorney to our Big Timber office. This position lets you practice from a town of under 2,000 people while carrying the caseload of a statewide firm. Big Timber puts you at the center of a ranching and small business community that values its relationships with professionals, and the firm’s four other offices keep case loads varied and complex.

From the outset, the clients you serve are yours. You will conduct your own meetings, manage your own files, and answer to clients directly, with senior attorneys serving as reviewers and mentors rather than intermediaries. The 1,400-hour annual billable requirement, low by any industry measure, exists so that neither the quality of your work nor your client relationships suffer.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor the junior staff around you and stay open to mentorship from the senior attorneys above you
  • Take matters from the first client meeting through to their conclusion, consultations included
  • Serve clients across estate planning, tax, business law, real estate transactions, and the practice areas that border them
  • Prepare, examine, and negotiate legal documents with clients kept current the whole way
  • Give clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel straight answers, including the ones nobody wants to hear
  • Route assignments to paralegals and legal assistants with clarity and respect
  • Take an active role in Big Timber’s civic and business community

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • License with the Montana State Bar, or eligibility for admission via exam or UBE score transfer
  • Writing strong enough to stand behind, shown in the required writing sample

Preferred:

  • Study or experience in estate planning, real estate, business, or tax law
  • Evidence that you take care of the people you serve, from legal practice or any other work
  • A connection to Montana already in place, or a sincere plan to build one

Three characteristics decide every hire we make: hunger, humility, and smarts. We are looking for a lawyer who chases down work instead of waiting for assignments, admits errors and hands out credit to peers, and understands people just as well as the law.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary set between $100,000 and $150,000 according to experience
  • Real bonus potential linked to personal performance and firm performance
  • Employee premiums for health, dental, and vision covered at 100%; family coverage at 75%
  • The firm funds HSA contributions up to the entire IRS limit
  • A 3% match on retirement contributions
  • Student loan repayment benefits
  • Continuing legal education paid
  • Relocation package for those moving to the area

The Big Timber Office

The office at 205 Hooper St. serves Sweet Grass County and the communities along the I-90 corridor between Billings and Bozeman. Practice here means being the town’s trusted counsel across generations of families and businesses. Because matters and clients circulate among all five of the firm’s offices, an attorney in Big Timber is never limited to the work one small town produces.

About Silverman Law Office

Businesses, families, and licensed professionals across Montana come to Silverman Law Office for estate planning, business law, real estate, probate, tax law, litigation, and the licensing that industries under state regulation, cannabis and gaming among them, cannot operate without. The firm’s founder, Joel Silverman, holds an LL.M. in Taxation and has spent more than 20 years in practice. What started as one office is now five, and that expansion has been fueled by clients who come back and refer others, at nearly double the usual rate for the profession.
