Litigation Attorney Job in Billings, Montana

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: Top of the Montana market, with bonuses that reward performance beyond it

Billable Hour Requirement: 1,400 collected hours annually

Office: 2800 Central Ave Unit A., Unit A, Billings, MT 59102

Minimum Qualifications: Five or more years of litigation experience and a Montana State Bar license

About the Position

Silverman Law Office, PLLC has an opening for an experienced litigation attorney in our Billings office. Billings is where much of the firm’s heaviest commercial litigation lands. Our team handles business disputes, real estate and construction cases, and contested probate and trust matters, generated by the state’s largest and most active commercial market.

The clients behind these cases are frequently facing the most serious professional or personal problem they have ever had. The attorney in this role manages both the case and the client: setting strategy, communicating clearly, and keeping matters moving toward resolution. The caseload is demanding. Collecting 1,400 billable hours means investing more time than that, and periods of trial preparation and briefing will exceed a standard schedule. We are upfront about the reality of the workload.

Responsibilities

  • Manage contested civil matters end to end, from initial pleading through trial and appellate work
  • Run client consultations with the confidence to deliver hard truths to people who do not want them
  • Convert a frightened client’s situation into a coherent litigation strategy and keep them moving through it
  • Produce persuasive written work and courtroom argument on deadlines that no judge will extend for your workload
  • Assign tasks to support staff deliberately, matching the work to the person
  • Argue strategy internally, honestly, and productively; the friction is the point
  • Take a bad ruling or a failed negotiation, recover overnight, and show up the next morning intact

Qualifications

  • Litigation experience of five years minimum
  • Montana State Bar license in active status
  • A record you can document of favorable rulings and trial results
  • Fundamental knowledge of civil procedure and evidence rules deep enough to hold under attack from opposing counsel
  • Writing, oral argument, and client communication that stay clear when the stakes climb
  • Confidence built on preparation and command of the facts and the law

No litigator wins every case. The attorneys who last develop the capacity to absorb a difficult verdict without losing either their confidence or their compassion. If you have that capacity and relevant experience, we want to talk.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay at the top of the Montana market; for the right performer, the bonus structure makes that a starting point
  • 100% of employee health, dental, and vision premiums covered, with family coverage at 75%
  • Full firm funding of HSA contributions
  • Retirement contributions matched at 3%
  • A student loan repayment assistance program
  • Support for continuing education
  • Potential relocation assistance for the right candidate

The Billings Office

The Billings office at 2800 Central Ave Unit A., Unit A anchors the firm’s presence in Montana’s largest city and its commercial center. Business disputes, real estate and construction litigation, probate contests, and trust fights all move through this docket, and Yellowstone County’s volume keeps a trial lawyer busy. Cases circulate among all five of the firm’s offices, so the practice reaches statewide.

About Silverman Law Office

From five offices across Montana, the firm represents businesses, families, and licensed professionals in litigation, business law, tax law, real estate, estate planning, probate, and the licensing that regulated industries require. Joel Silverman founded the firm more than 20 years into a practice grounded in an LL.M. in Taxation. Our growth from one office to five has come principally from clients who return and send others, at close to double the rate the profession considers normal. This is a firm where skilled people are supported and compensated well, where the work is challenging, and where a litigator can build a practice worth being proud of.

Our About Us page introduces the litigators you would join, and our reviews page shows the standard clients enforce. Study both; knowing the firm before the interview is the best advantage available, and we notice who takes it.

How to Apply

To apply, submit four items using our careers page form: a cover letter, resume, references, and a writing sample. Incomplete submissions are not reviewed. We provide confidentiality for practicing litigators who require discretion.
