Employment Type: Full-time
Base Compensation: $100,000 to $150,000 annually, plus significant bonus potential
Billable Hour Requirement: 1,400 hours annually
Location: Your choice of our Big Timber, Butte, Bozeman, or Billings office
Minimum Qualification: Montana State Bar license (or eligibility for admission)
About the Position
Silverman Law Office, PLLC is hiring an associate attorney to handle client matters across our transactional and planning practices, with placement available in four of our five Montana offices. This is a client-facing role. You will run your own consultations, manage your own files, and build your own client relationships with senior attorneys backing you up, not standing between you and the work.
Our 1,400-hour billable requirement is deliberately below the industry norm. We built the firm around quality work and strong client relationships, and that requires giving attorneys the time to do both.
Responsibilities
- Manage client matters in estate planning, business law, real estate transactions, tax, and related practice areas
- Lead client consultations and meetings, from initial intake through resolution
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents with direct client contact throughout
- Communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel, including when the news is unwelcome
- Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants respectfully and effectively
- Mentor junior staff and accept mentoring from senior attorneys
- Participate in the local business and civic community in your office’s market
Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active Montana State Bar license, or eligibility for admission by exam or UBE score transfer
- Strong writing skills, demonstrated through the required writing sample
Preferred:
- Experience or coursework in estate planning, business, tax, or real estate law
- A demonstrated record of client service, in legal practice or elsewhere
- Ties to Montana or a genuine intent to build a life here
We evaluate every candidate against three characteristics: hunger, humility, and smarts. In practice, that means you pursue work rather than wait for it, you own mistakes and share credit, and you read people as well as you read documents.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $100,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience
- Significant bonus potential tied to individual and firm performance
- 100% of health, dental, and vision insurance premiums covered for employees; 75% covered for family members
- HSA contributions fully funded by the employer up to the IRS limit, single or family
- 3% employer match on retirement contributions
- Student loan repayment plan
- Continuing legal education support
- Relocation package for candidates moving to Montana
Office Locations
You may be based in any of the following offices:
- Bozeman: 1745 S. 19th Ave., Suite 2, Bozeman, MT 59718
- Billings: 2800 Central Ave Unit A., Unit A, Billings, MT 59102
- Butte: 3334 Harrison Ave., Butte, MT 59701
- Big Timber: 205 Hooper St., Big Timber, MT 59011
Cases and clients move across office lines regularly, so your practice will not be limited to one market.
About Silverman Law Office
